The geographical scope of ECOMARIS incorporates all the island territories of the MAC 2021-2027 Program cooperation area, both the European archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands, as well as those of the Third Countries, Cape Verde and Sao Tome and Principe.
These territories, because of their insular and outermost nature, face common challenges in the management of their marine and coastal environments. However, they also share a rich maritime culture that can become an opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other in the search for shared solutions. Furthermore, international cooperation offers an appropriate scale to apply ecosystem approaches that favor the conservation and sustainable use of these spaces.
