The Island Council of Fuerteventura, through the Biosphere Reserve, will host the 2nd In-Person Meeting of the ECOMARIS project, which will take place in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) from 23 to 26 June 2026.
The meeting will bring together project partners, with representatives from organizations in the Canary Islands, Madeira, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Throughout the four-day event, internal consortium coordination activities will be combined with capacity-building actions aimed at professionals and organizations involved in the observation, management, and conservation of the coastal and marine environment.
In this context, three training workshops will be held on 23 and 26 June as part of Activity 3.1, “Training and Capacity Building for the Observation, Management, and Conservation of the Coastal and Marine Environment”. Meanwhile, 24 and 25 June will be dedicated to the project's annual coordination and activity monitoring meeting, reserved for consortium partners.
The meeting will include an institutional opening ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday, 23 June, from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m., at the Fuerteventura Training and Conference Centre. The following participants are expected to attend:
- Dolores Alicia García Martínez, President of the Island Council of Fuerteventura.
- Marlene Figueroa Martín, Third Vice-President and Councillor for Tourism, Economic Development, Ecological Transition, Environmental Sustainability and Security.
- Yaiza Fernández-Palacios Vallejo, researcher at the ECOAQUA Institute of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and coordinator of the ECOMARIS project.
- João Gama Monteiro, Associate Researcher at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Madeira and integrated member of MARE-Madeira and ARDITI.
- Antonio Gallardo Campos, Director of the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve.
ECOMARIS is a territorial cooperation project developed with the support of the INTERREG MAC 2021–2027 Programme, aligned with its Priority Axis 1: Smart MAC. ECOMARIS aims to promote the blue economy and the sustainability of coastal and marine environments on islands through capacity building, the application of advanced technologies, and the improvement of available information to support decision-making.
