Integration, sustainability and ecosystem approach

The project “Blue Economy and Promotion of Sustainability of the Coastal and Marine Environment on Islands” – ECOMARIS, developed between October 2024 and October 2028 with the support of the INTERREG MAC 2021–2027 Programme, addresses the strategic needs for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the island territories of the Cooperation Programme (Madeira, Azores, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe).

The cooperation of the participating island territories in applying the ecosystem-based approach provides an opportunity to address common challenges in the management of the coastal and marine environment, with an integrated and innovative perspective.

The multi-stakeholder nature of the beneficiary groups includes, among others, blue economy enterprises, administrations with coastal and marine competencies, research organisations, and educational centres, integrating the wider blue communities of the participating island regions.
